The strong, multiply distilled category, centred on Transylvania, Maramureș, Satu Mare and Bihor. Made most often from plum, but apple, pear, apricot and cherry pălincă are all serious categories in their own right, usually 50–60%. The Romanian spirit most likely to be found abroad.
